How to Set Up IPTV on a Smart TV: Samsung, LG and Android TV

Watching IPTV directly on your Smart TV means no extra box, no extra remote and no extra cables. The setup process depends on your TV’s operating system, so this guide covers the three most common: Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS) and Android TV / Google TV.

Before you start

• Have your IPTV login details ready: an Xtream Codes login or an M3U playlist link.
• Connect the TV to the internet, ideally with an Ethernet cable.
• Keep a phone or computer nearby. Many TV players are easier to set up from another device.

How Smart TV IPTV players usually work

Players on Samsung and LG TVs often work slightly differently from apps on phones or streaming sticks:

• When you open the app, it shows a device ID (sometimes a MAC address) and occasionally a device key.
• Instead of typing a long playlist link with your remote, you visit the player’s website on your phone or computer, enter the device ID, and add your playlist there.
• Many of these players are free for a trial period and then charge a small activation fee to the app developer. That is separate from your IPTV subscription.

Android TV and Google TV players usually let you enter your login directly on the TV instead.

Set up IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV (Tizen)

1. Update the TV

Go to Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now. Menu names can vary slightly by model year.

2. Install a player

1. Press Home and open Apps.
2. Select the search icon and search for “IPTV”.
3. Choose a player that supports M3U playlists or Xtream Codes, and select Install.

3. Add your playlist

1. Open the player and note the device ID (and key, if shown).
2. On your phone or computer, go to the player’s official website and find its playlist upload page.
3. Enter the device ID, then add your M3U link or Xtream Codes details and save.
4. On the TV, restart the app or use its reload option. Your channels should appear.

Set up IPTV on an LG Smart TV (webOS)

1. Update the TV

Open Settings → All Settings → Support → Software Update (on older models: General → About This TV) and install any update.

2. Install a player

1. Press Home and open the Apps store (LG Content Store on older models).
2. Search for “IPTV” and install a player that supports your login format.

3. Add your playlist

The process is the same as on Samsung: note the device ID in the app, add your playlist on the player’s website, then restart the app on the TV.

Set up IPTV on Android TV or Google TV

Android TV and Google TV are found on many Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips models, among others, and offer the widest choice of IPTV players.

1. Update the TV and apps

Go to Settings → System → About → System update, and update apps from the Google Play Store.

2. Install a player from Google Play

1. Open Google Play (or search from the Google TV home screen).
2. Search for “IPTV player” and choose one designed for TV remotes.
3. Select Install.

3. Enter your login

1. Open the player and choose Add playlist or Add user.
2. Select Xtream Codes and enter the server address, username and password — or select M3U and enter your link.
3. Add an EPG address if you were given one separately.

Tip: the Google TV app on your phone can act as a remote with a keyboard, which makes typing server addresses and passwords much quicker.

Load the guide and organise channels

On any TV, the first load may take a minute while the player downloads the channel list and programme guide. Then:

• add your most-watched channels to favourites;
• hide channel groups you do not use;
• check the guide times match your time zone, and adjust the EPG time offset in the player if they do not.

Picture settings worth changing

• Picture mode: choose Movie or Filmmaker Mode for accurate colours; avoid Vivid for everyday viewing.
• Motion smoothing: turn off Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus or LG’s TruMotion for films; a low setting can suit sport.
• Wired network: many TVs have a 100 Mbps Ethernet port. That is still several times what a 4K stream needs and more consistent than Wi-Fi.

Troubleshooting

I can’t find an IPTV app in my TV’s store. App availability depends on region and model year. Check the TV’s region setting, try searching “IPTV player”, or use a streaming stick. Our guide to watching IPTV without a Smart TV app compares every option.

The playlist does not load. Confirm you entered the correct device ID on the player’s website, then fully close and reopen the app. Double-check the playlist link for typos.

The app asks for payment. Many TV players charge an activation fee after a trial period. This goes to the app developer, not your IPTV provider.

Built-in app or streaming stick?

If your TV’s player works well and menus feel responsive, the built-in app is the tidiest setup.
